    Pre-Trip Planner:

  • Free parking is available behind the museum off of Douglas Street.
  • Imagination Station accepts checks, cash and MasterCard/Visa for admissions and Science Depot purchases.
  • A handicapped accessible entrance is located at the entrance of the museum.
  • The museum is self-guided. We offer daily science programs. Please check at admissions for program descriptions and times.
  • Allow approximately 60-90 minutes for your visit to the museum. You may go at your own pace, so spend as much time as you want at an exhibit. This time amount is provided for your convenience in planning but we encourage you to stay as long as you like!
  • No food or drinks are allowed beyond the lobby area. Imagination Station is a smoke-free museum, unless a chemistry experiment goes wrong!
  • If you have a specific question or need in regards to your visit, call 252-291-5113 or email us. We look forward to seeing you!
  • Registered Groups

    Planning your trip:

  • Imagination Station is visited by fewer groups during the months of September through February. You may want to consider a non-peak time in order to make your visit less crowded.
  • Please schedule your trip with us at least two weeks in advance. If planning a trip between March and July, please allow three weeks for scheduling. When scheduling times for arrival and departure, please allow an extra 20-30 minutes for check-in, orientation, and departure. Please notify us at this time of any special needs members of your group.
  • When you schedule your visit, you will receive a confirmation letter. Please bring the confirmation with you as it will be needed when you check in. Please check your letter to make sure your requested program and arrival/departure times are correct.
  • Before you arrive:

  • Remind your group they will be sharing the exhibit areas with other groups and the public.
  • We encourage you to visit our museum store. Plan on an extra 30 minutes for your visit. Also, we ask that no more than five students visit the museum store at a time and that they be accompanied by a chaperone.
  • Economical pre-bagged gift items are available with a one week advance request.
  • School name tags, T-shirts, or other identifiers are not required; however these will assist our staff in locating your group quickly. Any name tags used should be non-stick and identify the school and responsible chaperone.
  • As you arrive:

  • Personal vehicles and school vans may be parked in the Imagination Station parking lot off of Douglas Street. Buses may unload students on Douglas Street, then one of our educators will direct you to the designated bus parking area. Please leave coats, lunches, etc. on the bus, as Imagination Station does not have storage space for such items.
  • For quicker entry into the museum, a group leader should report to admissions to take care of payments, before the group enters . A school or personal check will be quicker than individual payments of cash.
  • Please give the admissions staff an exact count of all children, adults, and bus drivers in your group. One chaperone is admitted free for every ten students and bus drivers are always free.
  • Chaperones are expected to stay with their assigned children during the visit. Chaperones greatly enhance the museum experience by reading instructions aloud and interacting with the children and exhibits.
  • Chaperones are also expected to monitor the behavior of their assigned children to ensure that everyone has a pleasant experience.
